A NOTE ON GENDER ROLES

Traditionally (back in the olden times), a relationship was defined as being between a man and a woman. What we know now is that no matter the gender, each person in a relationship predominately exists within their masculine or feminine energy. This is true for any type of relationship (straight, gay, friends, siblings, etc.). It’s the universal pull of yin (feminine, receptive, intuitive) and yang (masculine, action-oriented, logical).

Even though we are all capable of moving between these energies, we usually have one that we find to be more comfortable. And within a relationship, individuals tend not to exist within the same energy at the same time. Again, think yin and yang.

As allies of the LGBTQ+ community, we fully support each person’s right to enter into and define their relationship as they feel most appropriate, either using or not using traditional terminology. For simplicity, we use the terms man, men or male to reflect the masculine energy and woman, women or female to reflect the feminine energy.
